Council discussed agenda items.
REGULAR MEETING: 7 PM
Present: Council; Several visitors, Andrew with Cable, David with Tribune.
Mayor Pro tem Johnson called the meeting to order and welcomed the group.
He gave the invocation with paraphrasing a poem "The Touch of the Master's Hand" and leading the group in prayer.
Councilman Mahaffey made the motion to approve the minutes from last month; Councilwoman Dawkins second. Unanimous.
Councilman Mahaffey made the motion to purchase the list of Christmas trees and angels that the Administrator presented with Hospitality Tax; to appoint the Administrator to do the budget draft, and to accept the dates for budget workshops; Councilwoman Dawkins second. Unanimous.
Planning Commission Chairman Vara gave their report, requesting permission to have an Easter egg hunt in the park on March 15 at 1 PM. She requested $200. in Hospitality Tax to sponsor this event. Councilwoman Dawkins made the motion to approve this request; Councilman Mahaffey second. Unanimous.
Victims Advocate Ben Dodd gave his report, stating that the transition had gone smoothly with the new Chief and staff, and stating that five victims had been assisted this past month.
Councilwoman Dawkins made the motion to give first reading to the Ordinance on Forfeiture of Council Seat to Run for Mayor; motion died for lack of a second.
Insurance discussion was tabled until next month.
Second and final reading was given on Sale of the Sewer System Ordinance with Councilman Mahaffey making the motion; Mayor Pro tem Mahaffey second. Unanimous.
Police Chief Smith gave his report stating that he had three certified officers at this time. He has had good reports with officers carding the businesses at night. Councilwoman Dawkins told him that two businesses near her were not carded. The Chief advised her that this would be taken care of. He informed Council that the FCC was going to 800 megahertz radios in the future, and if Chesnee could get in on the grant, the cost would run approximately $300. per month, as opposed to $45,000 for purchase of the equipment. This is still in negotiations. He advised Council that the com center was now keeping wrecker rotations. He also stated that he and the Code Enforcement Officer had answered three code violations this past month.
Councilman Mahaffey made the motion to adjourn; Councilwoman Dawkins second. Unanimous.
